U.K. Subs Peel Sessions
The Captain Oi! 7" Single Series
Volume Three Due Out 4 January 2016
Captain Oi! Records have today announced that the third and final 7" single of the U.K. Subs' three legendary John Peel sessions which the band recorded from 1978 to 1979, will be released on Monday 4th January 2016.
These magnificent and stunningly designed singles are available in a choice of two different colours, strictly limited to 250 copies of each, with this third release being on red vinyl and white vinyl.
This third John Peel session, featuring the Harper / Garratt / Slack / Davies line-up, was recorded at the BBC Maida Vale studios on 19 June 1979 and first broadcast on the John Peel show 9 days later, comprising five classic Subs tracks: 'Killer', 'Crash Course', 'Lady Esquire', 'I.O.D.' and 'Emotional Blackmail'.
Including four blistering versions of tracks from their debut album, it's interesting to note that the Peel versions and album versions were actually recorded in the same month. With 'Another Kind Of Blues' not being released for another three months, it is perhaps even more notable for the fact that this session also included a first recording of 'Emotional Blackmail', giving fans a taster of what to expect from the band's second album, 'Brand New Age', which was recorded over 6 months from this Peel session.
As with the previous two releases in this series, this final 7" comes with a full colour heavy-duty card gatefold sleeve, boasting previously unpublished photos of the band by Virginia Turbett, as well as an exclusive comprehensive liner note essay from the U.K. Subs 'Time & Matter' website editors Mark Chadderton and Rob Cook, the third of which is entitled 'Super Subs Standards'.
