U.K. SUBS RE-ISSUE ALBUM MINI FEATURE:

>>> OCCUPIED <<<

The Subs’ fifteenth official album ‘Occupied’ was recorded at Riverside Studios in Glasgow during October and November 1995, and released in 1996 on Fall Out/Jungle Records.

Retaining the same line-up of Alan Campbell on guitar, Brian Barnes on bass and Pete Davies on drums, which had recorded the previous album some two and a half years beforehand; if that prior recording had indeed lived up to its title of ‘Normal Service Resumed’ – coming as it did after the much maligned ‘Mad Cow Fever’ – then ‘Occupied’ went even further, proving to be one of the best Subs albums in their entire canon.

There is variety, humour, deadly serious subject matter and all things splendid that you’d expect from a ‘classic’ Subs long-player, and this one certainly benefited from a tight, imaginative and stable line-up, firing out some brilliant and memorable tunes on this 16 track monster. The writing credits are well shared across the songs, with stand-outs aplenty to savour from what many regard as one the best ever Subs line-ups, as testified to by Davies himself in an exclusive T&M interview: “…musically speaking, at the time Bri, Charlie and I had worked with 4 different guitarists before we found Al. I found our musical kinship got stronger once he had settled into the band. As musicians we were very much on the same wavelength.
alt
For example, at sound checks the three of us would jam for up to about 10 minutes, and if you were listening, you would assume we had rehearsed what we were playing. We hadn’t, but at the time we played tight. For me this was something special within the Subs, and I know this had not happened before.”

Incredibly, ‘Occupied’ was originally only issued on black vinyl so this ‘Let Them Eat Vinyl’ re-issue sees ‘Occupied’ boast colour vinyl for the very first time.

The CD issue on Fall Out/Jungle was licensed in the USA the following year to ‘Amsterdamned’ who re-colourised the front and back sleeve as well as producing a small number of promo copies in card wallets. Fall Out/Jungle didn’t put this album out on cassette.

The latest 'Let Them Eat Vinyl' re-issue of this brilliant, and strangely overlooked album has been long overdue - along with Normal Service Resumed - from what is one of the band's classic line-ups... Go on - treat yourself - grab a copy now folks...
